These children were further divided into four groups: Group N (Placebo), Group P (Drug), Group S/F (Placebo) and Group R/G (Drug). The assessment of cognitive functions was done with Malin’s intelligence scale of Indian children and Bender visual motor Gestalt test. Mentat was administered orally for 6 months, and results evaluated after 6 months. Children receiving Mentat performed significantly better on full scale and performance. An improvement in the attention and concentration as well as increase in their attention span was seen. They had better sequential ability. No child showed any behavior and speech abnormality during the trial. On the basis of the above observations it may be concluded that Mentat improved attention and concentration in learning disability in school children.

A Clinical Trial on Mentat
A clinical trial was conducted in mentally subnormal children and normal subjects with varied mental stress. Thirty mentally subnormal children in the age group of 7-14 years (Group A) were included in this study. Twenty patients of varied mental problems (Group B) and 10 normal individuals (Group C) formed the second group of the study. Of the 20 patients, 9 were aged 16-21 years and had memory disturbance, poor concentration and learning difficulty. 11 were aged 35-65 years and were suffering from hyopertention, diabetes and psychoneurotic illness. Mentat was administered for six months.
Patients in Group A showed a behavioral modification of 23.8%, an improvement in the attention span of 22.22% and 5% improvement in memory (Table 3). Children who were obstinate and irritable also showed amelioration in their symptoms. Improvement in memory was good in Group B, while attention and behavior modifications were satisfactory. In Group C, there was a remarkable improvement of 38.10% in memory. A satisfactory improvement in attention and behavior modifications of 9.10 and 10.10% respectively, was observed.
All the students who had difficulty in concentrating on studies, memory disturbances, difficulty in grasping educational material and irritability reported improvement. They were stress-free and comfortable during examinations, and reported good sleep. In the group of patients with hypertension, diabetes and psychoneurotic illnesses, subjects reported a general improvement in mental acuity. All the patients experienced a sense of well-being and good sleep. Alcohol-addicted patients also showed a good improvement in social adaptability and personality development.
