Gently cleanse skin. For daily cleansing, it is best not to use a soap based product on the face. Baby oil is an excellent gentle cleanser and helps to remove impurities without drying the skin. It is also very effective for removing eye makeup.
Exfoliate skin regularly. For the face use a gentle facial exfoliant and with the tips of the fingers lightly work the exfoliant upwards and outwards in a circular motion. Exfoliating sloughs away dead skin cells, oil, dirt and other impurities. Not only does it keep skin clean, it also helps to reveal new fresh glowing skin and allows skin to breathe.
Skin of babies is so soft because it is naturally exfoliated. In adults, the exfoliation process slows down and hence it is important to maintain an exfoliation regimen promote production of new collagen and smoothen the skin.
Moisturize skin. Skin needs to be moisturized in order to remain soft and supple. Washing removes oils and also moisture from the skin. Applying a moisturizer after cleansing the skin helps to prevent moisture loss by sealing in water before it evaporates. Keeping skin hydrated helps prevent and delay wrinkles. It is important to choose a moisturizer that will not clog pores and that will hydrate and freshen the skin.
Nourish and tone skin. Using face packs and face masks greatly helps to nourish the skin and firm it. Products containing herbal extracts such as Neem and turmeric also act as antiseptics and anti-inflammatories which help to clear skin of acne, prevent future outbreaks and tone and rejuvenate the skin. Face packs are especially beneficial for those with oily or pimple-prone skin.
Drink plenty of water. Water helps to clean our body of toxins, improves blood circulation, digestion, absorption, aids in the proper functioning of the kidneys, carries nutrients to the cells and keeps them hydrated. The benefits of having toxins flushed regularly from the system is reflected in our skin.
Nutritious diet. A proper nutritous diet low in oil and fats will cut down on pimples and acne outbreaks. Eating foods with fiber will help in cleansing the body of toxins. It is however also important to include some fat in the diet as this helps keep the skin cells elastic and prevents wrinkles.
Herbs such as Turmeric, Neem and Amla have long been known for their benefits for the skin. These herbs have anti-inflammatory, anti-septic and anti-bacterial properties. Whether used in face packs topically or ingested these herbs have been essential in the beauty regimen of women in India for centuries. They help to cleanse and detoxify the body internally and purify blood thus working from the inside out. Applied topically the effects of a turmeric and neem face pack are immediately evident. They have astringent properties that help to draw out impurities from the pores and cause the skin to glow. The anti-oxidants in these herbs help to slow the aging process.
Be sure to protect your skin. Sun, chemical fumes, alcohol, cigarette smoke, unbalanced diet and stress all work to age skin causing dryness, wrinkles, lines, enlarged pores and loss of elasticity. Healthy skin also reflects a healthy body. Eat well, rest adequately and exercise to maintain youthful looking skin
